Off Topic ------ Photography

Feel free to skip this post if it does not interest you.

Now and then I get an e-mail or two about the images I publish on the UMass Football Blog.

Mrs. Blog got me a Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro zoom lens for Christmas this year. I used it for most of the images in the Spring Game Album and the April 18th Spring Practice. I'm looking forward to an actual game :)

Last weekend I tried the "Macro" capabilities on my flower garden. The results came out pretty good.

Click on the image and Blogger displays a larger view. More macro images here.

And this last image, which reminded me of Robert Frost's famous poem "Design" published in 1936

I found a dimpled spider, fat and white,
On a white heal-all, holding up a moth
Like a white piece of rigid satin cloth--
Assorted characters of death and blight
Mixed ready to begin the morning right,
Like the ingredients of a witches' broth--
A snow-drop spider, a flower like a froth,
And dead wings carried like a paper kite.

What had that flower to do with being white,
The wayside blue and innocent heal-all?
What brought the kindred spider to that height,
Then steered the white moth thither in the night?
What but design of darkness to appall?--
If design govern in a thing so small.
