HOST Davao City blanked Dipolog, 3-0, to open its bid in the PFF Suzuki Cup U23 National Cup Mindanao finals on Thursday afternoon at the Tionko football grounds.
Jomar Acedo and Juven Benitez hit back-to-back goals in the 19th and 20th minutes, respectively, followed up by Joey Aroblo's goal in the 89th.
Davao City squad, mentored by Palaro champion coach Ramonito "Lalas" Carreon was playing against North Cotabato as of press time.
Dipolog, however, bounced back with a rousing 7-1 win over Cagayan de Oro Misamis Oriental Football Association (Cmofa) Friday morning to improve its record to one-win, zero-draw and one-loss.
Cmofa forced a 1-1 standoff with North Cotabato in another opening game of the bootfest where the top two teams will advance to the quarter-finals in Bacolod City.
North Cotabato's. Eric John Araojo knocked in a goal in the 58th but Cmofa's Emiliano Mabalos countered by sealing a goal in the 73rd for the draw.
Last round of games ends today. North Cotabato plays Dipolog at 1:30 p.m. Followed by the match between Davao and Cmofa at 3:30 p.m. (MLSA)
