Hougang's Revival!

As I said a few days back the SLeague is already shaping into another classic season and I am really looking forward to my next visit there. Dunno when mind!

These are the results of recent days I have missed. There have been some changes to the schedule and I don't have the latest one so am kind of in the dark on what's on the horizon!

Tampines Rovers v Balestier Khalsa 5-0 )Aleksander Duric 2, Benoit Croissant 2, Ahmad Fahmie) 1,093
Home United v Balestier Khalsa 5-2 (Qiu Li 2, Frederic Mendy 2, Shi Jiayi; Paul Cunningham 2) 1,258
Woodlands Wellington v Hougang United 14 (Ali Imran Lomri; Diego Olivieria 2, Jordan Webb 2)
655

1 - Tampines Rovers 11 9 2 0 26-7 29
2 - Home United 12 8 2 2 28-9 26
3 - SAFFC 11 7 1 3 20-12 22

10 - Aleksander Duric (Tampines Rovers)
9 - Frederic Mendy (Home United)
7 - Jordan Webb (Hougang United), Mislav Karoglan (SAFFC)

I think many people will be delighted to see Hougang United's fine start to the season. Indeed for those who followed them as Sengkang Punggol can they ever recall a time when one of their players is among the top scorers and they are within one point of last season's champions, Etoile? Back to back away wins? Three straight wins? Nine goals in two away games? Heady days for the Hougang faithful.

But there is a but coming and it's a pretty big but. An SLeague underclass is developing with three teams sharing just one win and 10 goals scored in their opening 31 games. What must surely concern everyone involved is that this underclass if you like, Young Lions, Woodlands Wellington and Tanjong Pagar (sorry but the United in their name is unnecessary) are teams who have dedicated themselves to developing young players.

Being positive it is good to see Balestier Khalsa and Hougang United/Sengkang Punggol have pulled themselves away from their familiar bottom place and they perhaps show the three earlier teams what can be achieved. Then again two of Balestier's three victories have come against Woodlands and Tanjong Pagar! The third came against...Geylang United who are one place below the Tigers!
