Filipino-Belgian booters to augment U-23 team

PHILIPPINE Football Federation (PFF) President Mariano Araneta said that three Filipino-Belgian players would reinforce the Philippine Under-23 football team that will compete in the 26th Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) in November in Indonesia.

Araneta identified the new additions as Angelo Verheye, Johan Van Bosche and Jeffrey Christiaens. All three are players in Belgiums second division football club.

They are invited to play here for the national team because they might empower our SEAG medal campaign, said Araneta. Azkals manager Dan Palami told me their addition would help us not only in SEAG but also in other upcoming tourneys abroad.

Patrick Ace Bright, the Azkals team coordinator said in a separate interview that the three players are set to arrive in Bacolod on September 8 to join the U-23 team in a scheduled training camp.

The U-23 team under German coach Hans Michael Weiss is undergoing training at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in preparation for the Long Teng Cup on September 30 to October 4 and the SEAG on November 11 to 22.
