MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) A senior Philippine sports official said punishing the two national football team players is the only way to resolve her sex harassment complaint, local media reported.
Cristina Ramos, match commissioner of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), said apologies are not enough to settle the complaint she filed against Azkals team members Lexton Moy and Angel Guirado.
Ramos said team manager Dan Palami has apologized on behalf of the two players. Ramos said she has accepted the apology but stressed that this won't absolve Moy and Guirado, according to a report filed by local news site www.abs-cbnnews.com.
Ramos, former president of the Philippine Olympic Committee and daughter of former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos, filed a sexual harassment complaint in AFC's disciplinary committee against Moy and Guirado.
In her complaint, Ramos alleged she experienced "sexist and demeaning behavior" from Moy and Guirado just before the friendly match between the Philippines and Malaysia last Feb. 29.
"As I called the players individually so that we could check their accreditation cards and kits, Philippine player LEXTON MOY (no. 25) stood by my right side and said in a loud voice 'Must be a B cup,' to which the players laughed loudly. As I was the only female in the room, he was apparently referring to my bra size," Ramos said in a letter addressed to AFC disciplinary committee chairman Lim Kia Tong.
"Additionally when I checked Philippine player Angel Guirado (no. 12) he stood in front of me purposely just wearing his briefs and made no attempts to wear shorts or cover his underwear. Again, the players loudly laughed while I was checking this player," she added.
A copy of the complaint was also sent to the Philippine Football Federation (PFF). Ramos said PFF President Mariano Araneta assured her that there would be an independent investigation by the PFF disciplinary committee.
