Bacolod United, Jakalz post opening wins in VFL

Last season�s runner-up Bacolod United FC and Jakalz booked their first winson Saturday in the opener of the 2nd Visayas Football League (VFL)/Gov. Alfredo G. Mara�on Jr. Cup at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

Bacolod United demolished Kabankalan City FC, 10-1 in Division 1 behind Jimuel Ariola, Carlo Tacusalme and Marcelo Desucatan�s pairs of goals.

Kabankalan FC had the first nodwith Paul Dionzon nailing the match�s first goal in the very 1st minute of the game for a 1-nil lead. But, striker Ariola opened Bacolod United�s scoring tally with a goal in the 3rd minute as Tacusalme sent two consecutive goals in the 11th and 15th minutes of the match whileDesucatan converted another in the 18th minute for a 4-1 advantage.

Eight minutes later, Joven Bedic joined Bacolod United scoring after hitting a goal in the 26th minute as Desucatan scored his second in the 36th minute and Jalsor Soriano scored the team�s seventh goal with one minute injury time to give his team a 7-1 lead at the break.

The southern squad tried to improve their offense and tightened their defense in the second half but it was not enough as the Bacolod United broke the lane for more goals in the later part of the match.

In the 74th minute, Ariola scored his second and his team�s eighth goal as Nicolas Kalalang and Gregg Gustilo nailed two goals in the 84th and 89th minutes to seal the win.

In the second match, Jakalz blasted Escalante City FC in Division 2, 5-1. Last year�s �Golden Boot Awardee� Jayme Poderoso led Jackalz alongside John Winston with pairs of goals.

Poderoso, as expected, played aggressive in the opening minutes of the match as he nailed his team�s first goal in the 17th minute to post 1-nil lead.

However, Daniel Ramos evened the match as he scored in the 36th minute to end the half at 1-goal apiece. Both squads tightened their respective defenses as they prevented any goal attempt from both ends.

But in the 54th minute, Michael Pacite stunned the Escalante back four as he sliced though the defense to nail Jackalz�s second goal. Ahead by a goal, Jackalz gained the momentum as Poderoso sent another goal in the 56th minute as the squad extended their lead at 3-1.

With the time winding up, John Winston scored two more goals in the 85th and 90th minute to end the match with 4 goals difference. A total of 19 teams are competing in two divisions of the 2ndVFL/Gov. Alfredo G. Mara�on Jr. Cup.

Ten squads are competing in Division 1, led by reigning first runner-up Bacolod United, Sagay City FC, Real Negrense FC, Atletico Bago FC, Minuluan Talisay FC, Football Club de La Carlota, Don Bosco Alumni, Cadiz City FC and Kabankalan City FC.

Meanwhile, nine teams battle each other in Division 2, namely, Magallon United FC, Escalante City FC, Victorias City FC, Silver Dragon FC, Bank of Philippine Islands FC, Jakalz FC, Football Club de Bacolod and Bat-us./

Negros Hermanas bags Girls U16 bootfest crown

The home-squad Negros Hermanas swept all its opponents to grab the crown in the just-concluded Girls� U16 Invitational Football Tournament played August 20-21, at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
The Negros Hermanas booked its first win against Negros Oriental Football Association, 2-1, courtesy of Negrenses� Johanna Martinez and Thea Claire Concepcion�s goals.
The Negrenses posted their second victory after defeating San Carlos City FC, 3-1, on the three goals from Michaela de Asis, before blasting Foundation University, 4-1, with De Asis scoring 2 goals, and shares from Chelo Marie Hodges and Johanna Martinez.
De Asis wasn�t done yet as she scored her sixth goal in the tournament to give Negros Hermanas its fourth on a 1-nil triumph over Rizal Football Association.
The Negros Hermanas is bannered by De Asis, Hodges, Concepcion, Martinez, Carmz Gaviola, Irish Navaja, Trixie Faith Jalbuena, Janna Lagman, Cathleen del Castillo, Mariane Ruiz, Tashka Lacson, Margie Centina, Maria Christine Duran, Jenelyn Cerbito, Angelica Suspene, Marielle Eusebio, Ivy Lopez and keeper Katherine Montelibano.
Meanwhile, a close camp of Top 30 Elite Team will be held on October 23, revealed National Girls U16 team manager Rafael Lizares. He added that players who will be selected from the recently-ended tourney will form part of the Philippine Girls U16 squad who will compete in the upcoming Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Girls� U16 Qualifier on November 5 to 12 in Manila. The Philippines is grouped with the teams from Australia, Thailand and Myanmar./

Real Negrense vs. Trimaxi in NFL tournament finals

Nobody expected that Real Negrense and Trimaxi Football clubs will make it but both squads did and will forge a battle for pride in this year�s 2nd Conference Finals of the North Football League this Sunday, Aug. 26, at the Ayala North pitch.

Despite being the underdog going into the semis, Real Negrense was filled with so much desire for the crown as its booters stunned erstwhile tournament leader Dynamic Builders, 3-2, last Sunday.

The Builders were actually on top at the half, 1-nil on a goal from Michael Benedicto in the 24th minute. But Real came out as a better team in the second half as Michael Pacite equalized the board at 1-goal apiece, after sending the ball at the back of the net in the 45th minute.

Both clubs tried to nail a goal but the tight defense from both ends prevented the strikers to convert an attempt. Not until the veteran and playing coach Luis William Clauor drilled his way to break Dynamic�s defense for his team�s second goal in the 73rd minute.

Two minutes later, Dynamic�s skipper and striker Ali Rojas Go was quick enough to even the score, 2-all. However, on transmission, John Winston Valencia took advantage of Builders� disarrayed defense as he sealed the match with a strike in the 76th minute and gave Real the victory.

Clauor said that everyone did their bests. �We overcome our problems. It was a sheer determination and effort of the team that made us won.�
Dynamic is a tough nut to crack but they committed errors at the back and we punished them. We are all enthusiastic and we made it to the finals, the playing coach further stressed.

On the other hand, Bes dela Noche of Trimaxi-Agro scored the match�s lone goal in the 58th minute to eliminate defending champion Ceres FC, 1-nil. Both clubs were held scoreless at the break.

Ceres battles Dynamic Builders for the third place on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. while the Real Negrense-Trimaxi championship match will start at 4:30 p,m./

Tougher Games Await NFL�s 2nd Conference

 The 2nd Conference of the Negros Football League (NFL) will be tougher as it sets to kick off on Sunday, May 27 at the Ayala North Point football pitch in the Talisay City.
Ceres Football Club Head Coach Norman Fegidero stressed that as they look forward for a grand slam title this conference, he expects a tougher competition from other teams that�s why they will be preparing every game one at a time.
Ceres FC�s archrival Dynamic Builders FC, which lost twice in the finals will be one of the teams to challenge the defending champion.
"Our team will continue to play hard and use our experience to reach the finals again. Our team is composed of veteran players and though we lacked condition but we have the experience. Our team cannot practice thrice a week because our respective works, like some other teams that practice almost everyday. But we will still try to surprise them. We are now the underdog so no more pressure for Dynamic FC," skipper Ali Rojas Go stressed.
Other clubs competing are last conference�s second runner-up Trimaxi-Agro FC, Real Negrense FC, Talisay-Minuluan FC and La Buenas FC.
On the other hand, tournament manager Ramon Janeo said that schedules for the upcoming conference are not yet ready. He will be posting the schedules if things are set, he added.* (JGToga)

Ceres wins NFL football tourney

Ceres Transport Football Club defeated Dynamic Builders Football Club, 2-1, to capture the 1st Conference of the 2012 North Football League tournament at the Ayala North football pitch.
It was a back-to-back victory for Ceres's Transport as they also denied Dynamic Builders of a grand slam win last year after bagging the 3rd Conference title on the 9-A-Side tournament.
Ceres' Arvin Villaruel scored the opening goal in the 23rd minute on a pass from John Trompeta.
Dynamic FC's first two attempts through Jason Cordova and Jason Panhay were stopped by Ceres' keeper Michael Casas. Dynamic Builders countered with a strong attack on Ceres defense led by skipper Ali Rojas Go and midfielder Jaime Poderoso finding his mark at 55th minute on a follow-up off the shot of Go to equalize the score at 1-all.
Poderoso's goal silenced the Ceres' bench, but this was short-lived as Ricardo Garcia sent a header from an outstanding cross pass from Russel Nene in the 60th minute.
Nene was on top of the upper right side above the penalty box when he saw Garcia approaching the danger zone from the weak side and sent a brilliant pass which stunned Dynamic keeper Mendoza.
The Leo Rey Yanson-managed Ceres squad used the time to secure the lead until the clock expired.
Ceres players got most of the awards after Villaruel was named Most Valuable Player while teammate Casas was awarded as Best Goal Keeper and Lemuel Unabia as Best Defender.
Dynamic's Poderoso and Go were named the Best Midfielder and Best Striker, respectively, while Michael Pacite was named as the Most Improved Player. The Fair Play Award was given to the Las Buenas football Club.

Dynamic to Choose Opponent in NFL Crossover Semis

All the matches last night have no bearing at all for the four teams to advance to the crossover semifinals on April 15 in the 2012 1st Conference North Football League of Yanson Group of Bus Companies football tournament held at Ayala North Point pitch in Talisay City.

Dynamic Builders Football Club remained on top with 9 wins against a loss and will have to choose its opponent in the crossover semifinal.

Dynamic defeated Trimaxi- Agro FC, 4-2, last night with Jaime Poderoso sealed the game challanging Trimaxi�s goalie in 77th minute following his maneuver for the first goal for Dynamic in 3rd minute.

Teammate Jason Panhay followed suit in the 10th minute and Dynamic skipper Ali Go added in the 11th minute.

Trimaxi�s Theo Limas and Paolo Celis made succesive goals in the 30th and 47th minutes which stand as the score of Trimaxi.

In the main game, Las Buenas Football Club surprised Ceres Transport FC, 3-2, to end their win-loss card to 2-8, while Ceres Transport had 7-3 cards but still stand as number two in the 6-team cast.

Ceres Transport playing-team manager Leo Rey Yanson ignited Ceres first goal in the 4th minute, but Las Buenas� Arlu Marcelino responded in the 6th minute. Ceres� Derek Locsin find his mark in the 21st, but Jay Senorio bounced back in the 28th and sealed the game in the 51st minute.

Earlier, Real Negrense FC posted a 3-0 win against Minuluan-Talisay for no show and unfinish match against Dynamic Builder last Sunday.

Dynamic will have to select among four other teams as their opponents in the semifinal this Sunday, either against No. 2 team Ceres Transport, No. 3 Trimaxi (6-4) and Real Negrense (5-5).

Tournament commissioner Ramon Janeo said the final winners will advance to the championship on April 22 while the losers battle for third place at the same venue.

He also added that the second conference may either starts on the third week of May.*

Ceres Liner Football Club is seeking another win against Real Negrense FC on Sunday, March 25 to fortify their standing the 6-team casts in the 2nd round of the 2012 1st Conference North Football League of Yanson Group of Bus Companies at Ayala North Point football pitch in Talisay City.

Ceres FC defeated Real Negrense, 3-2, in their first meeting in the first round and hope to duplicate the same when they meet in the second game at 3:30pm Sunday.

Dynamic Builder FC will tangle with Minuluan-Talisay in the first game at 1:30pm, with the former is highly favored to repeat against the latter they beat in the first round elimination, 7-2. Trimaxi-Agro, on the other hand, will try to repeat against Las Buenas Football Club beating them in the first round, 4-2.

With one more game left on April 1, intense match-up will be observed from all teams as the championship is nearing. Dynamic is leading with 7-1 cards; Ceres, 6-2; Trimaxi, 5-3; Real Negrense, 4-4; Minuluan-Talisay 1-7 and Las Buenas, 1-7.

Intense Match Ups Expected in NFL

Ceres Liner Football Club shun Dynamic Builders FC, 2-1, winning streaks two weeks ago and is catching up for the top spot beating Trimaxi, 4-0, last Sunday in the 2nd round of the 2012 1st Conference North Football League of Yanson Group of Bus Companies at Ayala North Point football pitch in Talisay City.

Ceres Liner FC is now logging a 6-2 win-loss card behind Dynamic Builder, 7-1, in the standing, while Trimaxi-Agro enjoy a 5-3 card ahead of Real Negrense with 4-4 standing.

Las Buenas FC join the win column after it defeated Minulu-an-Talisay, 1-0, Sunday and tied with its victim at 1-7 win-loss card.

Real Negrense gets past Las Buenas FC, 3-2, last March 11, while Trimaxi-Agro won over Minulu-an-Talisay, 5-2.

Last Sunday, Dynamic bounced back from a humiliating loss to Ceres Liner FC to beat Real Negrense, 5-1.

Dynamic Builder�s Andy Coscolluela made the first goal in the 12th minutes; Jason Panhay made two successive goals in the 19th and 41st minute.

Real Negrense� Luis Claur responded in the 51st, but Ian Treyes hit his target at 61st and Dinsay sealed the win at 73rd minute.

Ceres� Van Mapa opened up the scoring cudgel in the 7th and 10th minute Sunday against Trimaxi-Agro, and Ricardo Garcia and Arvin Villaruel added two more goals in the 46th and 73rd minute for the win.

In the second game, Las Buenas FC�s Art Marcelino had came out with a winning goal in the 76th minute as Minulu-an-Talisay seemed to relax and did not expect Marcelino�s trick to seal the win.

On Sunday, Dynamic Builder faces Minulu-an-Talisay in the first game at 1:30pm; followed by Real Negrense and Ceres Liner at 3:30pm and Las Buena FC against Trimaxi-Agro in the main game at 5:30pm. The matches on Sunday will be the second to the last with the last matches on April 1, followed by a championship.

Dynamic Leads as Ceres, Trimaxi Tied NFL

Dynamic Builder Football Club soared to its sixth straight wins even as Ceres FC and Trimaxi-Agro FC tied at second in the ongoing second round elimination of the 2012 1st Conference North Football League of Yanson Group of Bus Companies at Ayala North Point football pitch in Talisay City last night.

Dynamic Builders beat winless Las Buenas FC, 7-3, in the first game as they started hot with Jason Panhay made the initial mark in the 6th minute and skipper Ali Go added one of his two goals in the 14th then on the 21st minute, before Las Buenas� Noli Del Castillo ignited in the 19th in the first half.

Dynamic�s Jaime Poderoso started the second half hitting the mark at 49th followed by Andy Coscolluela in the 53rd as Las Buenas� Jun Senoro retaliated in the 55th. But Dynamic�s Jed Alvarez and Amber Tiongson successively connect in the 67th and 70th minute before Las Buenas Aurelio Villanueva hits back at 79th minute.

In the second game, Trimaxi-Agro FC avenged their first round lose to Real Negrense FC, 11-3, by upsetting the latter with a 2-1 victory.

Real�s seems to repeat their first round conquest of Trimaxi when Jose Marie Gubatayao connects in the 10th minute to end the half 1-nil in their favor. But, Trimaxi�s reliable men bounced back with FJ Serios did the trick in the 52nd and SPO1 Troy Fegidero followed just before the game ended at 69th minute.

On the other hand, Ceres FC had the upper hand when Aron Amantillo scored in the 6th minute of play. However, this is short-lived when Talisay-Minuluan�s Ronivic Palerna bounced back in the 31st minute. But just, five minutes before the half ended, Marvin Bruce tied the goal at 1-all at 35th, then made the go ahead score in the span of four minutes at 37th which was the last and final scored for both of them as both resortto close defense despite many attempts on both sides in the second half.

Ceres and Trimaxi had 4-2 win-loss cards, as Real Negrense slipped to 3-3 cards, while Talisay-Minuluan had 1-5 cards and Las Buenas is winless in sixth matches.

Next Sunday�s, March 11 match up will fit Las Buenas FC against Real Negrense at 1PM; Dynamic FC versus Ceres FC at 3:30PM, while Trimaxi-Agro FC will face Talisay-Minuluan FC at 5:30PM.

All Visayas bootfest set in San Carlos City

After a successful football year in 2011, San Carlos City is bringing into another level its grassroots development program with the hosting of the All Visayas Festival of Football for Under 13 girls and Under 14 boys set on February 26 to 23.

The age group tournament for aspiring football talents from different provinces in the Visayas will be followed by the Summer Football League on March 24 and the PFF Football Caravan on April 14 to 15.

San Carlos Football Club General Secretary John Carmona said the series of football events in the city enjoy the full support of the local government headed by Mayor Gerardo Valmayor Jr. and the congressional office of Rep. Jules Ledesma IV.

Recognizing the football development program as a major component in the city�s thrust for sports tourism, the program has also tapped the support from the San Julio Realty Incorporated and the City Tourism Office, Carmona said.

The San Carlos City FC has also been a beneficiary of equipment, training, and coaching materials from the US SouthCal Soccer Federation.

During its February 3 annual General Assembly, officers of the San Carlos FC presented the achievements of the group in 201.

Under the leadership of Valmayor, the club hosted the Philippine Football Federation National U19 football championships and the FIFA Grassroots Instructors Course last year.

The San Carlos City FC also strengthemed its coaches education program by sending four coaches for the AFC �C license coaching course, one for the AFC � B license and two coaches for the AFC A� License coaching course.

The club has also produced top caliber athletes with four members of its Under 14 girls -- Isabelle Carmona, Jojiel Junco, Janice Samillano, Edniella Sijub joining the national team, while Mason Trent Vergara was recruited to the national Under 14 boys� squad, Jhoguev Ybanez in the Under 16, and Jomar Caruscay in the Under 19.

Also from San Carlos City as South East Asian games campaigners Gerardo Jinggoy Valmayor, and Lemuel Unabia.

Bacolod Football - Two crowns for ABES in Carl Lopez bootfest

Andres Bonifacio Elementary School boys' Under 18 football team beat Handumanan, 1-0, while its boys' Under 12 ABES A squad tamed Wild Fox A, 2-1, to capture two titles in the 1st Councilor Carlos Jose �Carl� Valderrama Lopez 7-Aside Football Festival at the Bacolod City National High School pitch, Saturday.

Topping the eliminations in Under 18 against nine other teams, ABES went on to dominate the final match against Handumanan to secure the championship.

ABES' Jaymer Ciocon was named tournament Most Valuable Player, while his teammate Bell Bark Ortega received the best goalkeeper award.

In the Under 12 division, the boys from Andres Bonifacio beat 19 other clubs, including sister team ABES B in the semifinals, to school needed to tame sister team ABES B in the semifinals to arrange a title showdown against Wild Fox A.

Once again, ABES boys Adams Servanes and Sandy Remolado led the cast of individual awardees. Servanes was Under 12 MVP and Romolado, as best goal keeper.

In men's open category, UNO-Recoletos prevailed over Jackals A, 2-1, in the final match to win the title and the P3,000 cash prize. The Jackals received P2,000, while second runner-up Bacolod FC was given P1,000.

Recoletos' booter Michael Coral was MVP in the men's open event, while his teammate Jay Longno was adjudged as best goal keeper.

In the final match of girls' Under 14, Rizal Elementary school got away with a 1-0 win over St. Scholastica's Academy, with keeper Marikel Baleda bagging two individual awards � MVP and best goalie.

Rising Star Football Club was the recipient of the �Fair Play Award�, while Coach Ulyses Trillo was named best coach of the tournament.

Supervising the one day football festival was tournament director Emilio Goto, with match commissioners Dennis Estaniel, Leo Dayot and Catalino Valderrama Jr.

Bacolod Football -Ceres, Dynamic, Real Negrense post wins

YANSON Group of Bus Companies (YGBC) 2011 North Football League (NFL) Third Conference champion Ceres Football Club and two-time conference champion Dynamic Builders, as well as Real Negrense, scored emphatic wins against their respective opponents during the opening last weekend of the NFL 2012 season at the Ayala North Point football pitch in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

The three winners issued a strong message to all and sundry that they are very serious in their title bids in the 6-team tournament.

Defending champion Ceres FC started its title retention bid with a 4-1 domination of 3rd Conference 2nd runner-up Minuluan-Talisay. Ceres led 3-0 at the half behind the goals of Eliseo Palomo in the 9th minute, John Tromdita in the 21st and John Villaruel in the 36th minute.

Minuluan-Talisay tightened its defense and launched more aggressive attacks when play resumed. The team?s efforts paid off, as John Decatoria found his mark in the 71st minute.

However, Villaruel countered with incursion in the middle in the 76th minute to seal the game for Ceres.

Earlier in the second game, Dynamic Builders made mince-meat of Las Buenas Football Club, blanking the latter en route to a 7-0 victory.

Jason Panhay scored at the 13th minute, Ali Go quickly followed suit at the 16th minute and Roland Ian Treyes added another goal in the 20th minute to end the half, 3-0.

Go converted again in the 43rd minute when play resumed in the second half, Andy Coscolluela scored a minute later, and Go completed his hat trick at the 66th. Amber Tiongson sank another goal in the 80th minute.

Real Negrense posted a lopsided win against Trimaxi-Agro FC, scoring the first five goals in the first and another six goals in the second half against Trimaxi?s three goals in the game.

Luis William Claur ignited the onslaught in the 15th minute, William Flores at 31st; Luis Christian Claur in the 34th and 40th; Jose Tolete at 35th; Jason Castanilla made three goals at 46th, 74th and 77th minute; Wilson Valencia at 47th, Rex Obelario at 49th and Joe Gubatayan at 52nd minute.

Playing coach Eric Gallaga scored the first goal for Trimaxi in the 54th minute, Troy Fegidero at the 60th and Best de la Noche at the 70thminute.

Tournament commissioner Ramon Janeo said that the February 5, Saturday schedule of games will give fans a preview of what happened in the 2011 3rd conference when Ceres FC derailed the grand slam dreams of Dynamic, as both teams will face each other in the second game at 3:30 p.m.

Real Negrense and Las Buenas FC will meet n the first game at 1:30 p.m., then the main game will be between Trimaxi-Agro FC and Minuluan-Talisay at 5:30 p.m.

Janeo added that YGBC holds the football tournament to make Negrenses more aware and enjoy the beautiful game of football, in the same manner that they enjoy watching basketball and other mainstream sports.

Bacolod Football - 49 teams seeing action in Carl Lopez bootfest

The 1st Councilor Carlos Jose �Carl� Valderrama Lopez 7-A-Side Football Festival kicks off tomorrow at Bacolod City National High School pitch with at least 49 teams joining the competition.

In yesterday�s coaches and team managers� meeting at the Bacolod Government Center, tournament manager Emilio Goto said they are expecting other football clubs to beat the deadline before the event opens tomorrow.

Up for grabs are top places in five categories, boys and girls� 17 Under, girls� 13 Under, boys� 12 Under, and men�s open.

NFL 2012 Season opens January 29

THE North Football League (NFL) 2012 Season is set to kick off on January 29 at the Ayala North Point football pitch in the Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

Tournament commissioner Ramon Janeo said that the schedule of tournament�s opening is set on this date to give way for the 1st Negros First Men's Football Championships finals which was played January 21.

Janeo added that NFL will keep the six teams intact with the defending champion Ceres Transport FC, 1strunner-up Dynamic Builders FC, 2nd runner-up Talisay-Minuluan FC, 3rd runner-up Trimaxi-Agro FC, Real Negrense FC and the Las Buenas FC.

Dynamic Builders is expected to come out strong to avenge its 2-1 loss in last year�s 3rd Conference finals against the Ceres Transport. The Transporters� win foiled the Builders grand slam bid in that tournament.

On the proposed banning of players seeing action in the United Football League as well as current university players, Janeo stressed that the suggestion to ban UFL standouts in this league was disapproved. In short, these players who likewise suite up in different teams in the UFL remain in their respective rosters and kept by team owners.

The tournament official, however, disclosed that, unlike the UFL players, current universities and collegiate mainstays are disallowed to join the league.

Among those players who are playing in the NFL as well as in the mentioned leagues are Trimaxi�s FJ Serious (Pachanga FC/UFL) and Dynamic FC Jason Cordova (Stallion FC/UFL), as well as newly drafted Lemuel Unabia (Green Archers United FC/UFL) and Kenneth Doloso (Pachanga FC/UFL).

Unabia is a member of the defending PFF-Suzuki Cup U23 national Cup champion Ceres-Negros U23 while Doloso is a former West Negros University standout and National Coke Go-for-Goal U16 National Finals Best Goalkeeper awardee. He was also part of the Wesnecan team which won the 2006 NOFA provincial Futsal championship at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center and a former member of the U20 and U21 Philippines Men's national football team.

50 teams set to join Carl Lopez bootfest

At least 50 teams will join the 1st Councilor Carl Lopez 7-A-Side Football Festival that kicks off January 28 at Bacolod City National High School pitch.

Tournament coordinator Emilio Goto said the one-day football event aims to discover more players in the city and in support of the sports development program of the provincial government of Negros Occidental and the city government of Bacolod.

With Dennis Estaniel as match commissioner, the football festival will have three catetories, the men�s open, boys� Under 18, and boys� Under 12, Goto said.

He added that 20 teams are set to join in the men�s open, and 15 each for Under 18 and Under 12 categories.

To finalize the details of the event, a managers and coaches meeting is set on January 26 at the New Government Center, Goto said.*NAB

Ceres FC runs over Bacolod United, 11-0

THE Freddie Lazarito-mentored Ceres Football Club trampled the undermanned Bacolod United FC, 11-0 to romp off with the title in the Negros First Governor Alfredo G. Mara�on, Jr. Football Challenge during the championship showdown at Panaad Park and Stadium, Bacolod City Sunday.

Aldrin Dolino caught the defense napping, as he drilled in his first goal right at the 2nd minute of the game en route to a hat trick. Dolino, who was adjudged Best Midfielder of the tourney, scored two more goals in the 10th and 60th minutes.


Ruben Doctora contributed two goals (26th and 81st minutes), as well as Ralf Layumas (70th and 77th minutes) to pile up the points for Ceres.


Bacolod United�s Jayme Poderoso, who was adjudged Best Striker of the tourney with 16 goals, attacks the goal but was fouled by Ceres goalkeeper Robert Mendoza who earned a yellow card for breaking up a promising play. (Butch Bacaoco)

Jason Cordova (9th), Ali Go (53rd), Frederick John Serios (58) and Eliseo Palomo (75th) scored a goal each to complete the rout of hapless Bacolod United which was missing the services of its stalwarts Joeven Bedic, Norman Fegidero and the Tacusalme brothers Camelo and Carlo who had commitments with their mothers clubs in the United Football League in Manila.

Bacolod United had its closest chance to salvage its pride when Jayme Poderoso, though harassed by two Ceres defenders, attacked from the right flank and penetrated the penalty box late in the second half.

Roberto Mendoza, who subbed for mainstay goalie Michael Casas, fouled Poderoso. Mendoza was issued a yellow card for stopping a promising play but the goalie made up for the foul by thwarting Poderoso�s penalty kick 9.5 meters from the goal.

In the battle for third, San Carlos City FC survived a late rally by Sagay City FC, 3-2 to settle for second runner-up honors in the first game yesterday afternoon.



Ramon Gonzales of San Carlos scored the lone goal of the first half in the 29th minute of play.

Sagay started aggressive attacks when play resumed for the second half but fluid passing and superior ball control of San Carlos booters netted them two more goals from Archie Pamilar (50th) and John Marcellana (60th).

Carl de Jesus booted in Sagay�s first goal in the 66th minute while Marsh Caballero delivered in the 85th minute but the clock ran out of Sagay City FC.

In the individual awards, icing on the cake for Ceres FC was bagging four out of the five awards up for grabs. Michael Casas won the Golden Gloove (Best Goalkeeper), Jason Cordova was proclaimed Best Defender, Aldrin Dolino was named Best Midfielder and Ali Go was adjudged as the tournament�s Most Valuable Player.

Bacolod United�s Jayme Poderoso broke Ceres FC�s monopoly of the individual awards by bagging the Golden Boot (Best Striker) with his 16-goal output in the bootfest.

Meanwhile, tournament commissioner Warren Concepcion and provincial sports coordinator Nonong Verdeflor disclosed that, with the success of the first province-wide tourney which attracted 16 teams, Gov. Mara�on envisions the staging of the second leg of the tournament.

�The second leg will be launched after the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet which the province is hosting this coming March 12 to 16 here at Panaad,� said Verdeflor.

Concepcion added, �We are looking at the participation of about 22 teams, some of which will be coming from Cebu, Iloilo and Dumaguete. The increased number of team will necessitate that the next edition of this tourney will be in two divisions, with the eight quarterfinalists automatically qualifying for Division 1. Two other teams will be included in this highly competitive bracket, depending on their line-up and experience.�
