Prior to winning the 9-a-side YGBC championship crown, the Ceres Liner football team strengthened its bid for the title in the inaugural offering of the Negros Football Open Championship with a 7-2 victory over Real Negrense at the Panaad pitch, Saturday.
Abelardo Solinas openend the scoring in the match with an 8th minute marker for Real Negrense but Ali Go tied the score at 1-all in the 10th minute as Ceres tightened their defense on Real and created more options for their strikers to score.
Jason Cordova connected in the 32nd minute while J. Baguioro scored in the 34th as Ceres took a 3-1 lead.
It was an all-Ceres show in the second half as Ruben Doctora had two goals in 57th and 68th, while Joshua Beloya scored in the 73rd and Aldrin Dolino in 79th minute.
Arlu Marcelino salvaged another goal for Real in the 89th minute for the 7-2 fulltime score.
Earlier, San Carlos City absorbed its first defeat in the hands of Bacolod United, 5-3, to protect its own unbeaten record in Group A.
Bago and Himamaylan also posted separated victories with the Bagoe�os prevailing over Pontevedra, 6-1, in Group A and Himamaylan beating Cadiz, 4-1, in Group B.
All the teams will have their Christmas break starting December 17 with the matches to resume on January 7.*NAB
