YEARS of playing at the muddy San Roque Football Field, finally paid off and Aranxta Trebol will finally fulfill her dream of playing in an international standard pitch.
At 12, Trebol will represent the country in the Asian Football Confederation Under-13 Girls Festival of Football Tournament in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from June 9 to 14.
She is the only Cebuana footballer in the team who survived the selection stages that
started during the PFF Regional Football Festival last February.
From the 24 players shortlisted in the second phase of selection in the Manila camp, the Vietnam-bound squad, announced last Saturday, was cut to 18. They left last Tuesday night.
Im proud of her because at a young age, she can now serve the country by being part of the national team, said her father and San Roque coach Antonio.
It wasnt easy for the kid to be away from home and family to attend the various training camp sessions in San Carlos City and Manila.
She was called the crying lady by her team mates for being emotional.
She missed her family and friends so much that she could be found crying in the corner at times. Her mother would visit her from time to time to soothe her.
But her father Tony said that all her efforts will be worth it and hard work will pay off.
Its a nice experience for her to be exposed at such a young age, said her father.
She had been observed to have improved in the right wing position and was also trained to play striker.
The squad was able to meet the senior members of the Azkals who had given them a short talk.
She was ecstatic to meet her football hero Chieffy Caligdong, who wears the No. 13, and would have wanted to have his jersey number but the coaching staff assigned her the number 18.
