Montayre to present grassroots plan to PFF

(This is Cheska Geli's story for Sun.Star Cebu on Nov. 24)
PLANS for the grassroots program this year were suspended after former Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Mari Martinez withdrew support for the grassroots and elite programs.

The turn of events even led to filing a suit against Martinez for putting the funds for the program on hold.

But under the new PFF administration, reforms will be instituted to promote activities that will develop the sport.

Grassroots program director and Cebu Football Association president Richard Montayre will present during the PFF board meeting this Friday his budget proposal for next
year.

Montayre said his project is part of the 10-year plan and will include the revival of the grassroots and elite programs that aim to form the best team to compete in the 2019 Under 17 World Cup.

Montayre hopes the officials that will be in charge of the programs will be identified next January and the implementation will start in February.

These programs also received a boost from private companies willing to support and countries like Japan and Germany that are willing to offer services and equipment.

Lisod man sad na puro ra pro-bono tanan, kailangan gyud ug sponsor, said Montayre.

Meanwhile, the proposal for the province-wide Gov Cup for football has been submitted and is subject to the approval of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

But while the CFA is waiting for the approval, it is in the middle of a grassroots program that will cover Cebu Province, in compliance with the PFF directive that each
football association must cover a minimum of 10 areas.

Since Cebu is a huge province, the CFA will be taking charge of 22 areas with the help of local coaches who will be compensated by PFF.

The program covers the Players 6, 8, and 10 division and the boys 12 and 14-Under.
