The Philippine Football Federation launched Sunday the PFF Suzuki Cup National Men�s Under 23 at the Silliman University ball field in Dumaguete City.
Cyril Dofitas, PFF tournament director, said Dumaguete hosts the Visayas cluster elimination with five teams competing -- Iloilo, Cebu, Leyte, Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.
Dofitas said the eliminations is part of the process in selecting the players for the national team that will represent the country for the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia in 2013.
The regional elimination will use the double round robin system while the national championship will be the home-and-away format.
At least 10 teams will compete for the national elimination round to include three teams coming from the Visayas, three from Mindanao and four from Luzon.
He thanked Suzuki Philippines president Satoshi Uchida who committed to support the PFF in promoting football as one of the Philippines� favorite sports.
Competition committee chairperson, Dick Emperado, said they are grateful that Dumaguete was selected as the venue for the national launching of the PFF Suzuki U23 Cup. He said all football events in Dumaguete gather a good number of crowds, which proves the awareness of the public in appreciation of football.
He added that holding national football events will help encourage parents to allow their children to play the sport including in this city which is home to great football players in the country.*PNA
