Stallions sign new players

United Football League squad Penson Stallion Giligans added key players to bolster its campaign for the upcoming season.
The team signed Azkals member Jason de Jong and took in defender Carlos Canas Joaquin Garcia and forward Rufino Sanchez on loan from Spanish third division side CF Internacional de Madrid.
The two CF Madrid players are important (for us) to finish higher (in the standings), Stallion managing coach Ernie Nierras told InterAKTV. For De Jong, I will use his natural position as a holding midfielder.
De Jong was initially offered a slot by Stallion before trying out for Ayr United FC, a second division club in Scotland. However, his stint with the Scottish side didnt push through.
Meanwhile, Garcia and Sanchez were part of the CF Madrid squad which defeated a selection of players from the Philippine team and the UFL in a charity match last January.
Led by former national team striker Reuben Doctora Jr., Stallion finished fourth out of the ten teams in Lesgue play last season.

Stallion Fc 3-1 Guam NT

United Football League squad Stallion Giligans handed the Guam national mens national football team its third defeat in the Philippines after notching a 3-1 victory in a friendly match Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
After leading 1-0 at halftime courtesy of forward Jovanie Simprons goal, Stallion waxed hot in the second half sparked by goals from Lee Joo Young and Park Bo Bae to grab a comfortable 3-0 cushion.
Guam salvaged a goal late in the match, but it was not enough to overcome Stallions, which currently sits at the fourth place in the UFL Division One standings.
The loss caps the Mataos week-long training tour in the country in preparation for the East Asian Football Championships in July.
Guam yielded all of its matches, losing to the Azkals last Tuesday, 3-0, and UFL title contenders Global, 5-3, last Thursday.

UFL: Air Force tries to bounce back against Stallion XI

By Cedelf P. Tupas
Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines Defending champion Air Force Phoenix seeks its first win Tuesday night when it battles Stallion in the United Football League at the UMak field.

Foiled by Kaya, 0-1, in their season debut, the Airmen hope to bounce back in the 7 p.m. clash against a squad tipped to create an impact in its first season in the top-flight division.

Stallion sent a strong message with a 6-nil drubbing of Navy Red Juice last Jan. 15.

Loyola and Kaya lead the pack with six points, after two straight wins.

The Airmen will pin their hopes on Yanti Barsales, Ian Araneta and Chieffy Caligdong.

But the Air Force defensive line, which struggled against Kaya, are also in for a tough time against an attack-minded Stallion side.

Korean striker Lee Joo-young will lead the line together with K-League veteran Park Bo-bae for Stallion, after combining for four goals against Navy.

UFL opener: Stallions FC upsets Global XI

By Cedelf P. Tupas
Philippine Daily Inquirer
MANILA, PhilippinesStallions FC, more fluid in its attacking game early on, stunned defending champion Global FC, 3-2, at the start of the United Football League Cup Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Francis Gustilo and Jovanie Simpron put the all-Ilonggo side on top, 2-0, at halftime before Ruben Doctora appeared to have put the outcome beyond doubt with his 54th-minute strike.
But Global, galvanized by the entry of substitute Janrick Soriano, struck back in the 66th minute thanks to Remi Sery, before Izo El-Habbib made it close six minutes from time.
In the first UFL match aired live on national television, Global was denied of an equalizer in controversial fashion in second-half injury time when Japanese midfielder Yu Hoshide slid in to meet Sorianos cross in front of goal only for the linesman to flag him offside.
Still, it was a remarkable result for Stallions, who came into the game as heavy underdogs after Global upgraded its lineup during the offseason with the acquisition of Hoshide and Angel Guirado.
The Fil-Spanish striker didnt play because of an injured ankle he sustained in the Philippine Azkals 0-2 loss to Singapore in an international friendly Friday night.
It (the win) means a lot considering we are in the Group of Death, said Stallions coach Ernie Nierras, whose team is also bracketed with powerhouse Pachanga and dangerous Queen City Cebu United.
Looking to avenge their 1-nil loss to Global in the quarterfinals last season, Stallions got off to a bright start with Gustilo finding the back of the net with a shot from near the halfline in the 10th minute.
Simpron broke through the Global defense in the 44th minute to double the lead, before Doctora added to Stallions tally by following up his saved shot nine minutes into the second half.
Sorianos introduction in the 60th minute sparked the Global attack and his menacing runs on the left flank created the opportunity for Sery to volley past Wilson Munoz.
El-Habbib headed home a cross from the right six minutes from time.
We were still lucky because if they had 10 more minutes, they would have equalized, said Nierras.
